Property maintenance:

Spring clean-up:

Provides for the collection of tree branches, leaves and other debris left around your yard and in flower beds after winter. All collected debris is bagged and placed at the curb for a scheduled city collection. At the customer's request, we can take the bags to the regional recycle facility rather than wait for a city pickup (additional charge).

Prices are based on time taken, man-power used and the number of bags used.

Lawn Scaring (and Aeration):
Most people are not familiar with scaring, so let’s explain. Core Aeration is a process that perforates the soil with small holes (about 2” deep), and can be very beneficial in areas where water “pools” after a rainfall. It relieves soil compaction, removes undesirable thatch layers, encourages deep root growth and ensures optimal seed to soil contact for seed establishment. Lawn Scaring (done with a scarifier) is a process where “knives” cut “slits” in the turf and earth (about ½” deep) to provide a similar effect to aeration. Although scaring may not relieve soil compaction as well as core aeration would, it does also remove undesirable thatch layers, encourages deep root growth and ensures optimal seed to soil contact for seed establishment. So there are certainly many similarities.

In Wasaga Beach, our soil is very sandy so we do not suffer from soil compaction. So for this we do not see a benefit for aeration. In addition, we think it is more beneficial to have continuous slits in the ground that are ½” deep, than holes that are 2” deep and 6 - 8” apart.

Based on these differences, we recommend scaring over aeration.

Lawn scaring will be much more efficient if your grass is not too long. The closer we start to the actual ground, the better. If your lawn’s grass is more than 3” long, our operator may deem a lawn cut first is required. He will do this basic cut, and a modest charge may be applied.

Lawn de-thatching:

De-thatching is the aggressive raking of your lawn in spring to remove the thatch that accumulated over time. The thatch consists of dead grass, dead grass roots, partially decayed leaves, etcetra that accumulated over the previous year, and is against the earth and around the stalks of your good living grass. If left on your lawn, this thatch will retain water, fertilizer, insect treatments and many nutriments. Removing this thatch allows water to freely enter the ground. Raking your lawn by hand is a labour-intensive and a back-breaking job, so call us.

Lawn over-seed:

This service provides grass seed spread over your lawn area. The quoted price provides for 1 lb. of grass seed per 1,000 sq-ft of lawn area. This amount of grass seed should only be seen as a 'maintenance' application. It is adequate only if your lawn is healthy and in good condition (thick and lush), and will replace the grass that is lost over the course of the year. For lawns where the actual ground can be seen between the grass, we suggest that the customer request additional grass seed be applied (additional charge). Bear in mind that full over-seeding on a lawn would use from 5 to 8 lbs. of grass seed per 1,000 sq-ft.

Fall leaf collection:

Provides for the collection of leaves and other debris accumulated in your yard over the year. All collected debris is bagged and placed at the curb for a scheduled city collection. At the customer's request, we can take the bags to the regional recycle facility rather than wait for a city pickup (additional charge).
Prices are based on time taken, man-power used and the number of bags used.
